Monday, May 2, 2011

The legendary record label Impulse Records is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year, and with that comes a smattering of album releases and new projects to commemorate the occassion.

Famously nicknamed "The House That Trane Built" after its most famous artist John Coltrane, Impulse is releasing two anniversary albums, Impulse! @50: First Impulse The Creed Taylor Collection and John Coltrane Boxset. The label recently had a 5-night celebration of its artists in which several of the most famous releases from the label's heyday were reinterpreted by contemporary musicians. One of the artist whose album fell into the spotlight was The Gil Evans Orchestra and the classic album Out of the Cool. Ryan Truesdall, who was in charge of curating the show reinterpreted 5 of the 6 songs featured on the album, including the one below "La Nevada".

Visit Impulse Records to hear tracks from their anniversary releases.
