D.C Happenings

Thursday, October 28, 2010

Eeek! I've been a spotty blogger lately. Sorry! But lots has been developing (personally and professionally) and more is still to come :)

There's also lots happening in the DMV area that if you're not aware about, here it is!

-Rally on the Mall hosted by a certain two comedic satirists. It's so serious that even NPR staffers were told they were not allowed to participate. Tis true!

-Fotoweek D.C is back: Nov 6-13th. Amazing lectures, galleries, receptions going on. (Be sure to see reknown Magnum photographer Bruce Davidson on November 7th give a lecture at The Corcoran. I'll be there!)

-4th Annual Brazil Film Week ends today at E. St Cinema (even if you miss it, be sure to check out Nowhere Boy, which is the story of John Lennon's beginnings, also playing at E St. but completely unrelated to the film week ;)

-For Colored Girls opens in theaters. Ladies, grab your girfriends, grab your moms and get tickets in advance. Say what you will about Tyler Perry's template, but this looks to be out of the box and a significantly more artistcially challenging film for him. My girlfriends and I are going, so if you're looking for some buddies, let me know!

-The Classics: An Album Cover Art Exhibition presents "JAZZ". The owner of my favorite record store in D.C, SOM Records, is putting his phenomenal collection of jazz album art on display at Lounge of III on U. St, Sunday November 7th. It's free! I can't lie: if I don't know an artist or haven't heard their music I'll pick up something based on the album art alone. Something about its bomb design tricks my mind into thinking the music is going to be equally stellar. 90% of the time it's turned out to be a great find :)

PDN Photo Expo: Going down in New York City for a full week this week. This is THE destination spot for emerging photographers, photo editors, social media gurus, web designers, etc. Get your tickets for seminars now.

Gavinda Gallery, by far the most rad, amazing gallery presenting a vast collection of music photography ever, is featuring an exhibition on Elvis at 21. Little known or unseen photographs of Elvis when he was 21, shot by photographer Alfred Wertheimer, will be on display at The National Portrait Gallery from October 30-January 23, 2011. Go see it!!

Hair is playing at The Kennedy Center through November. Be sure to check it out!

Okay, have a great weekend!
