The Stuyvesants

There's an incredible producer/music guru named Flwrpt (Darien Victor Birks) who creates some of the most soulful, nostalgic and classic mixes of 60s and 70s soul albums, and puts them on his blog for you to enjoy and download for free!! I've been checking out a few of his mixes, one of my favorites being "Flwrpt Sample Food", where he presents the original versions of songs sampled by R&B and Hip Hop artists today. Click the pic to peep the tracklist and download the samples. And if you can, leave a friendly comment on Darien's page :)

But Darien's latest project called 'The Stuyvesants' is a collaboration between he and his friend and fellow music enthusiast Allan Cole (Algorythm). The project takes its name from the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn that both are from, and captures the grooves of the 60s and 70s music they grew up on, but adding the flavoring of Hip Hop. Check out the tracks by clicking on the picture, and download the album. It's free! Support good music, good craftmanship, and good folk. Also, if you're a design enthusiast, it might be a good idea to add Darien's blog to your RSS feed.
