Hiromi Uehara

Tuesday, January 26, 2010

The bright-eyed and talented pianist Hiromi Uehara performing a duet with her friend and mentor Chick Corea (!!!). To be so young and relatively fresh to the jazz world and be able to call Chick Corea your mentor? Insane.

I recently read a pretty cool article about her energy at her live performances, and how she once famously imitated the sound of someone's cell phone ringer as it was going off so as to save the offender some embarrassment. Sweet girl. She's among a very tiny fistful of female Japanese jazz pianists who've achieved worldwide success. And for any of you piano aficionados, or just good old fans, Hiromi will be performing for four nights at Washington D.C's Blues Alley, June 3rd-6th. Get thee to Georgetown :)

If you like your jazz piano with a little speed and a little pop, then check out Hiromi's new album, "Place To Be" in stores today, January 26th. Same day as the UK release for Corinne Bailey Rae's new album "The Sea"!
