J*Davey Steals Hearts

Tonight my girl Jim called me from 5 Seasons, a super chill and soulful lounge in Baltimore that features open mic poetry, singing, etc. I think initially she called for moral support, as she was about to make her second appearance on the stage at this particular venue. What started as a 20 minute convo soon evolved into me joining her at the table as a guest, via telephone. I stayed on the phone while poet after poet stepped to the mic with humorous, soft, or chilled out poems/songs. The MC was one of the more reknown poets, and centered the topic for the night on what else: What men really want in a woman, and letting men in on the secret of what women really want in them. The crowd welcomed his theory that women want a "reformed thug" with laughs and slaps that mostly said "You better go 'head outta here with that!" In between snippets of songs from Teedra Moses, Erykah Badu, Biggie, A Tribe Called Quest there was much laughter. I couldn't help but vibe out to all of it from right here on my bed :)

Anyhoo :)...this post is about J*Davey! The word has been out and J*Davey is the hottness....not just new hottness. This is everlasting-play-it-out-your-speakers-at-the-block-party-10-years-from-now-gettin'-it-in-make-you-want-to-go-crate-digging-on-a-Saturday-and-chill-out-to-Radiohead/Frou Frou-on-Sunday hottness. They're a mash up of everything good about music, from innovative use of instruments to playful lyrics. They're not trying to create a new style of music, just playing with the idea that they don't have to choose one genre over the other (because let's be real, how many times have you had to squint your eyes, twist your lips and look up whenever someone asks you, "what's your favorite genre of music?" lol) J*Davey incorporates all of theirs.

*Check out Little Jackie, too, if you have a minute :)
